Hi my name is Sterling Reed and my corporate occupation is a Computer Engineer.  Beyond my everyday tasks, and goals, I am backed up with a strong support team {my wife and my son who is currently experiencing the High School Life}.  When I’m not working, I spend the remainder of my time with two families, the family at home, and the knuckleheads at USA GYM.  If time allows, I also enjoy travelling, or just lounging around the house watching a good scary or Kung Fu flick. In 1995, I faced a major tragedy when someone tried to car jack me, shot me and left me to die. From that day on I have been paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.

How many years I’ve been training?

Before and just little after my injury, I did some basic exercises, therapy etc. but my real training came about when I met Chuck.  Chuck has been my trainer since 2003, and will be my only!

How long have I been a member of USA Gym?

5 Years

What brought me to USA GYM initially?

Wow! It all goes back to 2003, when I decided that the basic exercises that I was doing was not enough.  I wanted those muscles that everyone talked about.  This story is very touching in a way because after searching and searching for a personal trainer at various gyms, no one really wanted to take on my disability and the assistance needed.  As I went down the list, and might I add the last name on my list, I contacted USA Gym via email. A day later Chuck called me, I didn’t want to waist his time or mine, so I quickly informed him of my dedication, and disability. To my surprise he told me to come in the next day and that he would be more than happy to work with me.  Chuck is very patient, listens, and has a creative mind. He’s always sayin g, “Sterling I was just thinking..” or  “If we use this crate for this, you can do this”,  or “If we use this plywood, you should be able to do this”.  He’s constantly coming up with techniques for me to get a full workout like everyone else.

In my opinion, what is the best thing about USA Gym?

I would have to say the atmosphere, and the dedicated people you see each and everyday.  This gym houses some of the top bodybuilders, power lifters, and models.  Unlike many other gyms that I’ve visit, USA GYM is considered an institution of results.

What keeps me motivated and focused on my goals?

The exceptional transformation that I have seen since working out at USA Gym, has been a major focus and motivates me.

Final thoughts...

In closing, I would like to first extend my thanks to Chuck Sanow for getting me this far. It has been a long journey, but one in which he has been willing to take on.  Since working out in USA Gym and Chuck being my trainer, I have regained lost muscles and feelings to various parts of my paralysis! I never thought that I would compete, but guess what, I did! I am the first NPC Illinois State Wheelchair bodybuilder, and took home the OVERALL trophy. I would truly recommend USA GYM to anyone who’s serious about getting fit and possibly preparing for shows.  Rather you are over weight, shamed or what ever your reasons are to not visit, THINK OF ME.  I’m always in the GYM, and I encourage you to take on this initiative, you won’t be disappointed.
